Performance Fixes: Freezes, Overheating and Rendering Crashes

Three repairs on the Fixes page deal with a PC that has become unreliable rather than merely slow.

Random Stutters and Hard Freezes

If your PC locks up for seconds at a time, or freezes hard and needs a reset, and it happens across different programs, this fix addresses the systemic causes.

Be honest with yourself about the pattern first. If it only happens in one game, it is that game. If it happens everywhere, this is worth running.

Overheating and Battery Drain

If your PC runs hot doing nothing, the battery drains while closed, or it never sleeps properly, the power and thermal settings have been pushed somewhere unbalanced.

The fix restores balanced power, sleep and thermal behaviour. It is the right thing to run if you have applied aggressive power tweaks and regretted it, particularly on a laptop.

CUDA and Rendering Crashes

If Blender, video editing software or machine learning tools crash when they try to use your graphics card, the compute support has been disabled. The fix restores it.

Worth knowing: some of our own graphics tweaks trim features that these tools rely on. If your games got better and your creative software got worse, this fix is the answer, and you can keep both by running it after the tweaks.

If freezing continues

Persistent freezing across everything can be failing memory or a failing drive, which no software fix can repair. Check the Specs page for drive health, and send us a message from the support bubble at the bottom right before you spend money on parts.
