Your Tweaks Come Back Undone After a Restart

You apply tweaks, restart, and find some of them off again. There are a few real causes and they are worth telling apart.

Windows Update put something back

This is the most common one. A feature update can restore services and settings that were disabled, including telemetry and background tasks. It is not the app failing, it is Windows reasserting itself.

Reapply the affected tweaks after a large Windows update. That is normal maintenance rather than a fault.

Another optimizer is fighting ours

If you run more than one optimization tool, they will undo each other, because they disagree about the right settings. Pick one. Running two is worse than running neither.

Manufacturer software

Some laptop and motherboard utilities reapply their own power and fan settings at every startup. If your power tweaks specifically keep reverting, that is usually the cause.

The tweak needed a restart to apply, not to revert

Some tweaks only take effect after a restart. If you check immediately after restarting and it looks off in the app but the setting is applied, tell us which tweak, because that is a display problem worth fixing.

A restore point was applied

Restoring a restore point undoes everything since that point, including your tweaks. If you restored recently, that is the answer.

What to tell us

Which tweaks revert, whether it is after every restart or only after Windows updates, and whether you have other optimization software. Send us a message from the support bubble at the bottom right with those.
