Update Failed and Shows Code RIPQ9R58B

If an update stops with the code RIPQ9R58B, the app could not find one of its own files and gave up before changing anything. This is our fault, not yours, and it is not a sign that anything is wrong with your PC.

What went wrong

Older builds looked for a file in a fixed location inside the install folder. If your copy was installed somewhere else, or if that file was removed by a cleanup tool or by a previous uninstall that did not finish, the updater had nothing to hand over to and stopped.

The fix

Download the current version from our site and install it over the top. You do not need to uninstall first, you will not lose your settings, and you do not need to buy anything again.

How to do it

1

Close RIP Tweaks completely, including the icon in the tray near your clock

2

Go to the download page on our site and download the current installer

3

Run it and click through the setup

Installing over your existing copy is fine and is the intended fix.
4

Open the app and sign in as normal

Will I lose my tweaks or my licence

No. Your applied tweaks stay applied, your restore points stay where they are, and your licence is tied to your account rather than to the installed files.

Why it kept happening

Once an update failed this way it failed again every time the app checked, because the missing file never came back on its own. Reinstalling puts it back, and current builds no longer depend on it being in that one place.

If it still fails

If you reinstall and the same code comes back, send us a message from the support bubble at the bottom right and tell us the code. That points to something specific about your install that we would rather look at than guess.
