Creating a Restore Point Before You Tweak

Creating a Restore Point Before You Tweak

This is the single most useful minute you will spend in RIP Tweaks. A restore point is a snapshot of your Windows settings that you can return to if you do not like what a change did.

How to create one

1

Open Backups in the sidebar

2

Tap Create New

3

Give it a name you will recognise later, for example Before Tweaks

4

Wait for it to finish

It takes a minute or two.

Restoring

1

Open Backups and find the restore point you want

2

Tap Restore and confirm

3

Your PC restarts to complete it

Save your work first.

What a restore point covers

Windows settings, drivers and system configuration. It does not back up your documents, photos or games, and it is not a substitute for a real backup of your files.

Restoring cannot be undone

Once you restore, your PC goes back to that point and the changes made since are gone. The app asks you to confirm for that reason.

Make one before each big change

One before your first pass, and another before anything marked as advanced or aggressive. Restore points are cheap and regret is not.

If you have no restore points

Windows may have system protection turned off, which stops them being created at all. If Backups shows nothing and creating one fails, that is worth sorting before you tweak anything. Open the support bubble at the bottom right of any page and send us a message. A person replies by email.
