System Fixes: Disk Mounting, Virtual Machines, PIN Login and Search

Four repairs on the Fixes page deal with core Windows features that have stopped working.

Disk Mounting

If double clicking a disc image does nothing, or virtual drive software has stopped mounting, the built in mounting support is disabled. The fix restores it.

Virtual Machine and Emulator Crashes

If VirtualBox or a console emulator crashes on start, the hypervisor support underneath is usually in a conflicting state. The fix restores stability there.

Windows Hello, PIN Login and Anti-Cheat on AMD

If PIN sign in has stopped, or the security features that some anti-cheat systems require are failing on an AMD system, the security components they depend on need repairing. The fix restores PIN login and the related security features.

This is the one to run if a competitive game suddenly refuses to start on an AMD PC and blames security.

If searching takes many seconds, or returns nothing for files you know exist, the search index is damaged. The fix rebuilds it.

Expect it to be slower for a while after, not faster. Rebuilding an index takes time, and it has to read your files to do it. Leave the PC on and let it finish.

A note on the security one

If PIN login is broken you may also be locked out of your own PC at the sign in screen, which makes running a fix inside Windows difficult. In that case use your password rather than your PIN to get in first.
