How RIP Tweaks Updates Itself

RIP Tweaks keeps itself up to date. There is nothing to download manually and no update button to remember.

What happens

When you launch the app it checks whether a newer version exists. If one does, it downloads and installs it, then opens on the new version.

Required updates

Occasionally an update is required rather than optional, and the app will not continue on the old version. That happens when staying on the old build would leave something genuinely broken. It is rare, and it is not done casually.

If an update fails

Download the current installer from our site and install it over the top. You do not need to uninstall first, you keep your settings, and you do not buy anything again. That resolves nearly every update problem in one step.

Checking your version

Open Settings in the sidebar. Knowing your version before contacting us saves a round trip.

Will an update undo my tweaks

No. Your applied tweaks are real Windows settings and stay applied. Your restore points stay too.

Does it need admin permission

The app runs with administrator rights because changing Windows settings requires them. You may see a Windows prompt when it starts. That is expected.

Updating on a slow or metered connection

Updates are not large, but if you are on a limited connection you may prefer to launch the app when you are on unmetered internet rather than mid session.
