Textures, Models or Players Look Wrong in Game

If things in your game render incorrectly after tweaking, for example players or objects appearing invisible, flickering, or missing textures, this is a graphics setting rather than anything to do with the game itself.

Say this plainly

If parts of a game are not drawing, you have a rendering fault, not an advantage. It is not a cheat and it is not something to keep. It also tends to work against you, because things you need to see stop appearing too.

What usually causes it

  • The advanced graphics tweaks that disable preemption and the timeout watchdog
  • Forcing a maximum performance state on a card that becomes unstable at it
  • An old graphics driver combined with aggressive settings
  • Shader cache cleared while the game was mid session

How to fix it

1

Revert the advanced graphics tweaks from the GPU page

2

Restart

3

Update your graphics driver from the manufacturer

4

Verify the game files through its launcher, which rebuilds anything damaged

If it started after clearing caches

Clearing the shader cache means the game rebuilds it. During the first session after, you may see missing effects. Play a little longer and it settles. If it does not, verify the game files.

If it persists on stock settings

Then it predates the tweaks and points at the driver or the card. Restore your restore point so the app is out of the picture, then test again.
