The App Will Not Start After a Windows Update

A Windows update can change enough underneath that an installed program stops launching. Here is the order worth trying.

1

Restart your PC

Windows updates often need a restart to finish, and a half finished update breaks things in exactly this way.
2

Reinstall the current version over the top

You keep your settings and your licence.
3

Check your security software for a newly quarantined item

Updates sometimes reset those decisions.
4

Check the app is not already running in the tray, because a second copy will not open

If you are asked to sign in again

A large Windows update can change enough about your PC to look like a different machine to the licence check. If you are told you are on a new device, do not pay for a reset. Send us a message from the support bubble at the bottom right with the email on your account and we will sort it.

If Windows itself is unstable after the update

Then the app is a symptom rather than the problem. Use a restore point from before the update if you have one, or roll the update back through Windows.

Very recent Windows builds

Some newly released Windows builds cause this more than others. If you have just moved to a new one, tell us your exact Windows version when you contact us. We track this and your version is genuinely useful.

Finding your Windows version

Search the Start menu for winver and open it. It shows your version and build number.
